From early 2019 until the late summer of 2021 I published a full-color, 48-page, bimonthly magazine on Alaska’s history, featuring some of the best writers in the state. The magazine grew quickly and readers sent glowing reviews, but when the global pandemic hit in the fall of 2021 subscriptions stopped cold, and I had no choice but to stop publishing the magazine. From time to time I have considered starting it again, but book writing and publishing have kept me from doing more than just daydreaming about the idea. Maybe someday….
Volume 1 features: Construction of the Alaska Railroad 1902-1923, Bush Pilots, Matanuska Colony Barns, Aleutian Islands, SS Nenana, J. S. Spurr, Harriman Expedition, All Alaska Sweepstakes, Orr Stage Company, Elizabeth Peratrovich, Glenn & Mendenhall in 1898 and much more! 225 pages, b/w 6″x9,” over 150 photographs.
Volume 2 includes: Chilkoot Pass, 1915 Tanana Chiefs, Robert Service, Governors of Alaska, Dr. James Taylor White, Mary Joyce, Matanuska Colony, Yellowstone Kelly, Stephen Birch, Hudson Stuck, 1918 Flu Epidemic, SS Dora, C. C. Georgeson, Wells Fargo Co., Ray Mala, Ernest De Koven Leffingwell, Ft. Yukon, Nellie Cashman, Robert Kennicott and much more! 347 pages, b/w 6″x9,” over 200 photographs.
"A wonderful publication outlining the richness of Alaska's history. A large format magazine with excellent production values, NO ADVERTISING and well researched stories with links to source materials for further reading. Having been an Alaskan since 1965 there are delightful stories that even 50 years of living here had not brought to my attention. Very highly recommended!" ~Amazon review
The well-researched and wide-ranging articles with historic photographs and vintage illustrations which ran in the first two years of the magazine were gathered into two digest-sized books, Alaskan History Anthologies 1 & 2, and originally the two books were available separately for $24.95 and $29.95 respectively ($54.90 total).
Now I am offering them as a set for $24.95, less than half the price of purchasing them individually, plus $5.00 postage.
