The End of the Trail site was exactly what I was looking for, but the link was inaccessible. It didn't tell me the link was dead, though, so I'm not sure what to say.
"End of the Trail" is a column in Alaska Sportsman/Alaska magazine noting deaths of prominent/important Alaskans. The header of the column is: "Notices in this column, because of space, are limited to names of those who have achieved pioneer status through many years in the North, or who are otherwise of unquestioned importance in the daily scene. We cannot print all death notices, and answering submissions of death notices is likewise impossible. In calling deaths to our attention, please give name, place of death, age, any unusual or interesting aspects of the person's life and immediate next of kin surviving. Other details are not required."
The column began in the September 1960 issue of Alaska Sportsman, and ended in 2017. This index was created by staff at the Alaska State Library Historical Collections.
